Working with Parents
We recognise the importance of working closely together with the child's parent/carer and understand that you are your child's main educator. We also recognise that as your child's main educator you will have valuable knowledge to share with us regarding your child and his/her development, needs and interests.
On induction your child's key worker will meet with you to discuss your child and his/her interests as well as their needs and routines. This enables us to provide the most effective care and education for your child.
Parents are always welcome into nursery and we welcome parental involvement with activities at the nursery and adopt an open door policy.
We endeavour to keep parents informed about their child's development and progress through regular parent's evenings and will always contact parents if we are particularly worried about one of the children's wellbeing.
Nursery notice boards and letters will keep you up to date with information about planned nursery activities.
Behaviour
We are fully aware of the importance of understanding children's behaviour and working with the child and their families to overcome any problems that we may encounter.
We firmly believe in promoting positive behaviour and aim to encourage self discipline and consideration for others and their property. Staff are aware of the importance of praise for good behaviour. Through this praise we hope children see that we value their positive actions and that we value and respect them.
Unacceptable behaviour is discouraged by all staff and dealt with depending on the child's understanding and the circumstances. It may be necessary to remove the child from the situation to calm down and reflect on his/her behaviour. Children are also encouraged to say sorry and if applicable check that the person they have upset is okay. Staff will also discuss with the children what they have done and to think about their actions.
The nursery staff are aware of the importance of making sure the child is aware that it is the behaviour that we are rejecting and not the child.
Parents will be informed if their child has persistent behaviour problems and may be asked to meet with staff to work together in finding ways in which we can be consistent with dealing with the problems. In all cases inappropriate behaviour will be dealt with by the nursery staff at the time.
